Lunch Seminar with Professor Louis Hyman (Cornell) – ‘Temp: How American Work, American Business and the American Dream Became Temporary’

On 15 January 2019, the Global History of Capitalism project hosted a lunch seminar at Brasenose College with Professor Louis Hyman, Director of the Institute for Workplace Studies at the Industrial and Labor Relations School, Cornell University, New York.

Professor Hyman’s most recent book is Temp: How American Work, American Business, and the American Dream Became Temporary (Viking, 2018), recently reviewed by the New York Times and shortlisted for the 800-CEO-READ Business Book Award.

During the seminar Professor Hyman discussed the relationship between the global history of capitalism and his research on temporary employment and the ‘gig economy’.
